Veteran catcher Gregg Zaun has decided to call it quits after 16 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), the 39-year-old Californian told reporters on Monday.

Zaun played for nine different MLB teams and was hoping to join a 10th with the San Diego Padres after coming back from shoulder surgery.
But he decided to call it a day after he realized he was just not fit enough during a Spring training game on the weekend.
""The stamina just isn't there,"" he told reporters. ""After three innings yesterday, I was totally gassed.
""I owe the Padres more than that. They gave me a great opportunity and I didn't want to leave them hanging.""
Zaun played in 1,232 MLB games and finished with a career batting average of .252. He made his debut with the Baltimore Orioles in 1995 and also played for the Florida Marlins, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals, Houston Astros, Colorado Rockies, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers.
He won a World Series with the Marlins in 1997.
